A few hours ago, elmo posted a little note on everyone’s favourite website, rllmuk. We think you should have a read – because Joypod has some pretty interesting news to reveal…
Tommy Boyd (once children’s TV presenter now radio talk show host) has approached Joypod and asked them to do a live video game phone in show for Play Radio UK starting 8:00pm Thursday 29th January.
What does it mean to Joypod?
It means they will no longer being making the show using Rock Band mics and a laptop. They will have full use of a radio studio and a team to back them up. They have been given a producer to help them in the early stages and a team to track down interviews/prizes and so on. This has also given them the opportunity to branch out a little and do something they’ve ALWAYS wanted to do, take calls. Play Radio UK not only have the technology to take phone calls, they can also take Skype calls. This means if you wanted to come onto the show for a laugh and a chat it wont cost you a penny. Just download Skype and Skype into the show.
What does it mean for you?
Well, not too much. The show is not going to change apart from taking calls which I think is fantastic. David needs to confirm that they can still put the cast on the Joypod feed. It does mean though that the show will be more regular (if they land a proper slot) with interviews with some pretty interesting people. The show will still be based on RLLMUK and thisisjoypod.com They are not a Play Radio UK show, they are still Joypod. It’s just now, their shows will also be released on the Play Radio Network. It also means that they should get a few more listeners which can only be a good thing. Oh and the rule of contributing will never change. If you have an idea and want to get involved then please please do so.
How will the show change?
It won’t. To quote Tommy “I want you to do exactly the show you want to do, the way you want to do it”. Play Radio is internet radio which means it is not covered by the rules of OffCom. They can swear and be as messy and stupid as they have always been, and not only are play going to be cool with that, they are supporting it. The only thing you will notice is that there will be adverts. This is a downer but all the other stuff makes up for it IMO.
I’d like to hear your opinions on this. What do you think? Have they made the right move? Will you be listening/phoning in next week?
Tommy closes his final e-mail with “I have a funny feeling about this, it could end up huge!” I really hope it does.
Seriously – David and Michael are MADE UP about this. It’s a big opportunity for Joypod, and we hope that you guys jump on the ridiculous bandwagon of lunacy and enjoy the ride.
