Daily Blog # 0039 – Monday 8th February 2010

I feel a bit cold and sniffly today, so I’m back to my two Lemsips a day diet. Blackcurrant if you must ask. I’m not really a lemon sort of a guy really. It would always be my last choice in a pack of fruit pastilles, and I always preferred Apple Tango over Lilt. It goes even deeper than that; I think it’s just a disdain for citrus colours in general. Any sweet, no matter what it is, I’ll always go for the black, purple or deep coloured sweets. Every time. I never go for the green or yellow sweets. I might go for the orange ones, but only if any of the darker colours have been eaten already.

But I digress, luckily the cold wasn’t enough to keep me from going to the shops at lunchtime (or in fact ringing in sick for work in the first place)

Thinking about that though, would I still have to struggle on and write a daily blog post if I was really ill? What about if I was seriously ill? What about if I was involved in an accident that left me in a coma? What about then? Well luckily I’ve left my blog’s log-in details with my girlfriend so in the event of me being either kidnapped or comatosed, this blog is still carrying on.

In fact, the readership will probably go up ten-fold with my girlfriend writing it. Then I’ll come back from hospital and be all like “Guys, I’m baaaaack!” to a theoretical empty room.

Anyway, even with a cold, and even after Saturday’s adventure where I went to the shops and bought some jeans and trainers, I’m still after a navy-blue quilted Barbour jacket and possibly the white Adidas watch I saw over the weekend as well.

So I went to Austin Reed to try on the jacket after being recommended I go there by the other two Barbour stockists in town, but when I got there, they didn’t have my size. Apparently they don’t stock XS, and in fact the assistant even mentioned “after S, we don’t go any further. In fact, after S we actually go to the women’s sizes” I remarked “Yeah, I’m pretty small, but not quite womanly”.

I then started doing a “Hap-py- birth-day Mr Presi-dent, hap-py-birthday to-you” song and dance until I was escorted off the premises and onto a boat which then sailed off to South America ready for a new life as a singer, an actress, a dancer.

Back to reality; The guy looked at me, not knowing what to say, went on to talk about ordering it from the Barbour website directly. “They’re only £70 on the Barbour site” he says, after I mentioned they were £75 on eBay.

Since coming back home I’ve found out that they’re actually £85 on the Barbour site so I’m going back in tomorrow to ask if they’ll order me one in, specially. Either that or punch the assistant square in the dick because he lied to my face.

Sadly that’s where the story ends. No embarrassing events today, and no perverts in the changing rooms. I didn’t go in the changing rooms though, so who knows? Maybe the Austin Reed girlfriends are crazy perverted. Maybe they’re the kind of changing room perverts who actually come into the cubicle for a look? They probably think “Fuck the 2 inch gap in the curtains, I’m getting right in there”. Shit, maybe I should go back and try on some trousers in there.

I’m gonna go back to Size? at the end of the month though, to have a look at that watch I was talking about. I’ll take a picture of it when I’m next in as it’s gorgeous. It’s big, white, and the LCD display is reversed so the clock display is white and the background is black. It looked awesome, but I can’t really afford £50 right now, so it’ll have to wait.

I was hoping that I’d have an exciting preview of that game-I’ve-been-playing-but-can’t-talk-about tomorrow, but the embargo has been extended for one more day, so that’ll have to wait until Wednesday night for now. The embargo ends at 17:00GMT on Wednesday, so I’ll update the blog in the evening like usual.

Also, fresh from the 5,000+ downloads of Big Bother in just 5 weeks, David, Adam and myself will be fronting a new show in the next month or so. Can’t really say much more at the moment- mostly because we don’t know anything abut it either – but also because even after 3 chats about it, I don’t think Adam wants to do it. More news as and when it happens though.
