Daily Blog # 0069 – Wednesday 10th March 2010

So yesterday was a weird one. Gill was finally coming home after being away for a massive 36 hours, and the flat was a bit of a mess. That wasn’t the weird bit I was referring to by the way, that comes later.

Unlike me, the flat had got a bit on the messy side since Gill went away. The washing up needed to be done, the bins needed to be taken out, and there was a dead hooker in the bathroom.

I had a mad rush during work yesterday but got a text from Gill later that afternoon saying that she’d be home a little earlier than we’d expected.

She was due to arrive back in Leeds at six instead of the 8pm I had planned for, which meant my heavily detailed itinerary was out the window faster than a indoor cricket match gone wrong.

By 8pm I had planned to get my blog written, dinner eaten, dead girl cleanin’ and 24 a’ watchin’. As well as set up all ready for recording a Heavy Rain podcast with @davidturners, @idlemichael, @digitalcowboys’ Tony and @chrisoregan from the Super Happy Fun Time Show later that evening.

As it was I rushed home, bolted down my pasta bake from yesterday and finished writing the first version of my blog (what I tend to do is write the basic blog post, then go through it changing almost every sentence again and making sure there aren’t any spelling and grammar mistakes. Then I sort the picture)

After that I had to rush out to the station and pick up my gorgeous girlfriend. It was great to have her back, but the mad rush that ensued as I tried to do everything that needed to be done sort of tainted an otherwise beautiful meeting of togetherness.

She was hungry when I picked her up so we decided that as neither of us wanted to cook (and to be fair I had already had one dinner) we went off for fish and chips instead.

A couple of weeks ago, the guy who runs the chippy had tried to get me to buy one of his ‘special’ fishcakes. Apparently they’re made to a special Yorkshire recipe, nowhere else in the world, etc etc so I bought one because hey, I’m just that kind of guy. Plus Gill was paying. She got a small sausage by the way. Oh, and we shared a large chips.

So we get home and eat but as soon as I’ve eaten I jump up to sort out my blog. I figured if I got it done quickly I could relax a bit before recording the podcast at 8pm. But the thing with writing is that you don’t always feel like it. I had rushed around all day, as well as the early part of the evening and I wasn’t in the mood to be rushing about now that I was sat down (and full of food).

This unfortunately meant that the blog dragged on, then I had to choose a picture for it, and by the time I had finished it was 19:50 and I still hadn’t set up my mic and mixer! Things were bad; I could see and hear Gill getting frustrated. Or thinking about it now, that could’ve been EastEnders.

So I sort out my recording equipment and by the time I sit down on the couch it’s 19:58. The famous EastEnders DUM DUMS played on the TV and I was back up again, preparing to record a banging hour of lively chat and in-depth discussion on one of the year’s biggest games.

I had promised Gill the recording wouldn’t go on too long, but she’s an old hand at this podcasting game now and she knew I’d be at least an hour longer than I said I’d be. Not only that but recording was delayed an hour because Chris needed to eat. Didn’t catch which flavour it was but let’s just say Cat to cover all bases.

Recording didn’t finish until 10ish in the end, so Gill was right, but by the time I had sent the file over to David, had a shower, looked at Chatroulette and pontificated over the effect of 24 hour MTV on the youth of today, it was 11 O’Clock. More than that, Gill was asleep. She had even gone to bed without saying goodnight, poor cow.

Her first night back and this is how I treat her. I really missed her when she was away but instead of spending time on the couch whispering sweet nothings to each other, mine was spent writing a blog about men’s urinal habits and recording a podcast on a computer game with people I met on the internet. So, yeah, every cloud.

The two-hour Heavy Rain special will be out later this week and I’ll link to it so at least you can see what I risked an argument with a loved-one for.
